In 1991, David co-founded Zone Gallery with Kate Tregaskis and ran it with her, and later Michelle Hirschhorn, until 1998. Zone was the principle photographic exhibition space in Newcastle upon Tyne, showing work by both established and internationally-recognised artists and new, upcoming photographers, including Duane Michals, Helen Chadwick, Andres Serrano, Peter Kennard, Paul Reas, Susan Collins, Carey Young and Geoff Weston. Zone also premiered major exhibitions or had first UK showings of work by Orlan, Ori Gersht, Evergon and Araki.

To accompany the exhibitions programme, Zone Gallery established an education and outreach programme, working with Northumbria, Newcastle and Sunderland Universities and winning a prestigious IBM Community Connections Award in 1996 for its work with the Bangladeshi community on Tyneside.

Zone Gallery was revenue funded by Northern Arts and the Arts Council of England. This series of images represents a small selection of the exhibitions, events and publications that Zone Gallery produced.

More archive material can be found on the Zone Gallery Facebook pages.
