The Human Motif by Zofia Kulik, 1995

published to coincide with a first UK solo exhibition of works by Polish artist Zofia Kulik. Her extraordinary montage works were often comprised of hundreds of individually exposed negatives creating vast, wall-sized images that explored the legacy of history and contemporary cultural revolution.

As Zofia said of her work, Their purpose is to humiliate the spectator and bring him to his knees. But for whom are you to humble yourself today? there is no god, no leader, no mystery. So whom are you to serve?

The Human Motif was supported by The Arts Council of England and Visiting Arts.
